Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and GoatPrep ("we", "our", or "us") governing your access to and use of the GoatPrep application and website (goatprep.xyz), including any related services (collectively, the "Service"). By creating an account, downloading the app, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

GoatPrep is not directed at children under 13. You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent in your country of residence if that is higher, to create an account or otherwise use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement. If we learn that we have collected account information from someone who does not meet this age requirement, we will take steps to delete that account and associated data.

3. Account Registration & Security

You create an account by signing in through a supported third-party provider (currently Google or Apple). You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at the email address below if you suspect unauthorized access to your account. We are not liable for any loss arising from your failure to safeguard your account.

4. The Service

GoatPrep is a chess opening trainer. The Service lets you import and organize opening repertoires, drill lines using spaced repetition and an embedded chess engine, sync your progress and data across devices, and share opening folders and repertoires with other users, clubs, and the public. Features may be added, changed, or removed at any time, and we do not guarantee that any specific feature will remain available indefinitely.

5. User-Generated Content

License to GoatPrep

The Service allows you to create and share content, including opening folders and repertoires, variations, comments, written reviews and ratings, club information, usernames, and avatars ("User Content"). You retain ownership of your User Content. By submitting, posting, or sharing User Content through the Service — including by making a folder public, sharing it with a club, or leaving a review or rating — you grant GoatPrep a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, display, distribute, and otherwise make that User Content available to other users as necessary to operate and provide the Service (for example, showing a shared folder to club members or displaying a public review to other players).

Prohibited Content & Conduct

You agree not to post, share, or transmit User Content that:

• Is offensive, harassing, hateful, threatening, or abusive toward another person or group
• Infringes the intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of any third party
• Is illegal, or promotes illegal activity, in your jurisdiction or ours
• Is spam, unsolicited advertising, or otherwise deceptive or misleading
• Impersonates any person or entity, or misrepresents your affiliation with one
• Contains malicious code or attempts to disrupt or compromise the Service

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. This applies to all User Content and interactions on the Service, including shared folders, reviews and ratings, club content, and friend challenges.

Reporting

If you encounter User Content or a user that violates these Terms, please use the in-app report action available on the relevant content or profile, or contact us directly at [email protected]. We review reports and take appropriate action, which may include removing content, warning a user, or suspending or terminating an account.

Our Right to Remove Content and Act on Accounts

We may, at our sole discretion and without prior notice, remove or disable access to any User Content, and suspend or terminate any account, that we believe violates these Terms, violates applicable law, or is otherwise harmful to the Service or its users. We are not obligated to monitor User Content, but we may do so, and we may act on violations we become aware of through reports or our own review.

6. Blocking Other Users

The Service provides tools to block other users. Blocking a user prevents them from interacting with you (for example, through friend challenges) and limits their ability to see content you share. Blocking a user does not guarantee removal of content that user has already shared with a club or made public; use the reporting mechanism above if that content violates these Terms.

7. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its software, design, branding, and all content we provide (excluding User Content), is owned by GoatPrep or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the rights expressly granted to you to use the Service, we reserve all rights, title, and interest in and to the Service. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service or its software, nor reverse-engineer it, except as permitted by law.

8. Free Service

GoatPrep is offered free of charge. There are no subscriptions, in-app purchases, or paid features. Providing the Service for free does not create any obligation on our part to maintain any particular feature or level of availability.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure, or that any content shared by other users is accurate or appropriate.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, GoatPrep and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service or any User Content, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. The Service is provided free of charge, and to the maximum extent permitted by law our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service is limited accordingly.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page and updating the "Effective date" above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of France, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the French courts, unless mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence provides otherwise.
